On a hut-to-hut week, you carry your own bag every day. Huts give you a bed, blankets, dinner and breakfast, so you need far less than people expect. Aim for a pack that is still comfortable on the fifth steep climb.
The list
- A 30 to 35 liter pack with a rain cover.
- A sleeping-bag liner: required in every hut.
- A waterproof jacket and overtrousers.
- A warm mid-layer and a light down or synthetic jacket.
- Two sets of walking clothes: one on, one drying.
- A sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm.
- A head torch, earplugs and a small first-aid kit.
- Cash, a card, your ID and the hut numbers.
Leave the towel at home or bring a small travel one. Slippers are provided in most huts, so you do not need hut shoes.
The three things people tell us they wish they had brought: blister plasters, a light pair of gloves for cold mornings, and a stuff sack to keep the night’s things together.
We send a full kit list with your route notes, and your planner will check your pack weight with you before you leave if you ask.
